Referred to by almost everyone as "John Hall", over the last decade I have become one of the premier online fundraising and lead generation experts in America. Working with dozens of organizations,  I've collected over 48 million individual contributions and raised more than $1.5 billion. While I'm immensely proud of the gross fundraising success I've had, I'm far more proud of the online fundraising programs that I've turned around. I have yet to work with an organization and not improve their online fundraising - and I have worked with a lot.

I don't believe in vanity metrics. I don't believe in quick fixes. I don't believe any organization can spend their way to success. And I don't believe in lying to donors to get ahead. Successful online fundraising takes a lot of grinding out small wins, setting realistic goals, sticking to a plan, building a relationship with supporters, and ignoring all the background noise.

Political online fundraising should be done better. Full Stop. It doesn't have to be entirely transactional, treating grassroots donors like ATMs. Political organizations don't have to be in a constant state of churn.
